Design Director
JOB DESCRIPTION
Pact is seeking a Design Director to own the creative vision and execution across our project portfolio, while also rolling up their sleeves and taking meaningful, hands-on leadership on a select number of flagship initiatives.
You’ll bring strategic thinking, deep ecommerce expertise, and an obsessive attention to craft and detail – guiding our team to deliver intuitive, brand-forward user experiences, and making informed decisions about when to innovate and when to lean on proven customer experience paradigms and best practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the overall design practice: set the creative standard across projects, oversee the end-to-end design lifecycle, and ensure work aligns with long-term brand and business goals
- Manage, mentor, and grow a team of designers – fostering craft excellence, accountability, and continuous learning through feedback, guidance and example
- Take direct responsibility for a handful of high-impact projects, driving design from discovery through strategy, concepting, prototyping and handoff
- Develop and communicate design strategy for ecommerce businesses, understanding complex user flows, conversion drivers and the balance between best-practice UX paradigms and standout brand experiences
- Drive strategic decisions and partner closely with our Development, Project Management, and Client teams to ensure cohesive, insight-driven outcomes
- Ensure every touchpoint resonates with brand, function, and usability – refining typography, layout, interaction, micro-motion, and edge-cases with the same care as "the big idea"
- Stay ahead of ecommerce trends, UX and UI best practices, and build frameworks and solutions that raise the bar for our clients and our internal design standards
REQUIREMENTS
- A strong understanding of project management principles
- Experience working in a rapidly-scaling direct-to-consumer brand or ecommerce-focused agency
- 2-3 years of experience working with design and development teams
- The ability to maintain a high level of billable time (80%) while overseeing project teams and ensuring efficient resource utilization
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills in one-on-one and group settings, with the ability to communicate high-level concepts, overall business direction, and technical requirements
- Ability to inspire and understand the interplay between people, processes, and systems
- Exceptional documentation and note-keeping skills
- Attention to detail
- Comfort with some ambiguity and client briefs that sometimes lead to more questions than answers
- Expert understanding of Shopify, including admin management, theme setup and customizations
- Self-directed and proactive, with the ability to work independently and lead projects with minimal oversight
- Receptive to feedback and committed to continuous improvement, both personally and within the team
- Reliable and reassuring partner in collaboration, with a strong focus on team success and client satisfaction
BONUS POINTS
- Experience working with Shopify and/or direct-to-consumer companies
- Experience using Asana, Monday, Jira or other project management tools
- Previous experience with data migrations and large-scale website design and build projects
