Frontend Developer (Shopify)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Pact is looking for a Frontend Developer who is technically solid, communicates clearly, and can be counted on. This is a craft-and-reliability role: you'll take a well-defined piece of work, build it properly, and tell us early when something isn't going to plan. You'll build custom Shopify themes and frontend features alongside our developers and designers, with most of your time going into translating design files into clean, performant, maintainable code.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on Shopify theme development experience and genuine care for the details – sections and blocks that merchants can actually use, interactions that feel considered, and markup that holds up when content changes underneath it. What we care about most is that your code is sound, your estimates are honest, and your work comes back needing very few rounds of fixes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build custom Shopify themes and frontend features from design files, with close attention to detail across breakpoints and states
- Develop flexible, well-structured sections and blocks that hold up when clients change content and merchandising
- Implement interactions, transitions, and animation with care for both feel and performance
- Integrate third-party Shopify apps and services, and troubleshoot them when they misbehave
- Write clean, readable, documented code that the next developer can pick up without a tour
- Keep an eye on performance – Core Web Vitals, script weight, image handling – as you build, not after
- Test your own work thoroughly across browsers and devices before it goes to review
- Communicate progress clearly and flag blockers, scope creep, or timeline risk early – early and awkward beats late and quiet
- Ask questions when a design or requirement is ambiguous rather than guessing
- Participate in code review, both giving and receiving feedback constructively
- Help with QA, bug fixes, and post-launch support on sites we've shipped
REQUIREMENTS
Shopify Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on Shopify theme development in a professional setting
- Solid understanding of modern Shopify theme architecture – sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects, and theme app extensions
- Working knowledge of Shopify's Storefront and Admin APIs, and comfort with GraphQL and REST
- Familiarity with common Shopify integrations such as Klaviyo, Attentive, Yotpo, Gorgias, ReCharge, Tapcart, and Nosto is a bonus
- Exposure to Shopify Functions, checkout customizations, or app development is a bonus
Technical Skills
- Strong command of Liquid, JavaScript, HTML, CSS/SCSS, and Git
- Experience implementing designs from Figma faithfully, including responsive behaviour and edge cases
- Practical grasp of web performance and accessibility fundamentals
- Bonus if you're experienced in TypeScript and React, or Hydrogen and headless Shopify
- Bonus if you've worked with animation libraries such as GSAP, Motion, or Lenis
- Comfortable leveraging AI-assisted development tools as part of a normal workflow
Professional Skills
- Clear written communication – you can explain what you did, what you're stuck on, and what you need, in writing, without being chased
- Reliability: you meet the dates you agree to, or you tell us well before you don't
- The judgment to know when to solve something yourself and when to raise your hand
- Honest estimating and the discipline to surface risk before it becomes a problem
- Agency background, or any environment where you juggled more than one project at a time, is a bonus
