Design Director

JOB DESCRIPTION

Pact is seeking a Design Director to own the creative vision and execution across our project portfolio, while also rolling up their sleeves and taking meaningful, hands-on leadership on a select number of flagship initiatives. You’ll bring strategic thinking, deep ecommerce expertise, and an obsessive attention to craft and detail –guiding our team to deliver intuitive, brand-forward user experiences, and making informed decisions about when to innovate and when to lean on proven UX patterns.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the overall design practice: set the creative standard across projects, oversee the end-to-end design lifecycle and ensure work aligns with long-term brand and business goals
  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of designers – fostering craft excellence, accountability, and continuous learning through feedback, guidance and example
  • Take direct responsibility for a handful of high-impact projects, driving design from discovery through strategy, concepting, prototyping and handoff
  • Develop and communicate design strategy for ecommerce businesses, understanding complex user flows, conversion drivers, and the balance between best-practice UX paradigms and standout brand experiences
  • Partner closely with our Strategy, Development, Project Management and Client teams to ensure cohesive, insight-driven outcomes
  • Ensure every touchpoint resonates with brand, function, and usability – refining typography, layout, interaction, motion, and edge-cases with the same care as the big idea
  • Stay ahead of ecommerce trends, UX and UI best practices, and build frameworks and thinking that raise the bar for our clients and our internal design standards
  • Boost efficiency by ensuring we have a cohesive set of standards and tools to govern project delivery and handovers
  • Take the lead in nurturing and shaping our design team – including hiring, growth plans and more

REQUIREMENTS

  • 8+ years of experience in digital design, preferably within ecommerce, direct-to-consumer brands, or design-led agencies
  • Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary design teams or major projects from strategy through execution
  • Deep fluency in UI/UX design, systems thinking, responsive design and modern web standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail – you not only see the big idea, you sweat the little stuff (typography, spacing, motion, edge cases)
  • Comfortable influencing clients and stakeholders, as well as being hands-on in design tools and workflows (e.g. Figma, prototyping tools)
  • Strong strategic mindset: you understand how design drives brand, growth, and customer behaviour, and know when to push boundaries (and when to lean into established UX paradigms)
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, balancing craft, strategy, and delivery
  • Care deeply about the retail landscape and brands, and are excited to take an active role in shaping the industry's future

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience working with Shopify and/or direct-to-consumer companies
  • Experience using Asana, Monday, Jira or other project management tools
  • Experience with mid- to up-market brands ($10MM in annual revenue and beyond)
